Traditionally, wines from the ‘old-world’ countries, such as France, Italy and Spain, dominated the lists of the world’s finest wines. However, over the past couple of decades wines from the ‘new world’ countries and regions, such as Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and California, alongside a number of Eastern European countries, particularly Bulgaria, have been producing really good quality wines of a very high standard.
